Overview

The BioGEM Program trains recent graduates in research that integrates biodiversity science with genetic and evolutionary mechanisms. Each year, ten scholars are selected to engage in a full-time, year-long, interdisciplinary research and professional development experience. The program runs from July 6, 2026, through June 30, 2027, and is based in Lawrence, Kansas, at the University of Kansas. Scholars work on interdisciplinary projects that explore how organisms, populations, and species respond to past and present environments, and how genetic mechanisms equip organisms to respond to future environmental change. The BioGEM program is designed for recent graduates with limited or no prior research experience who are motivated to pursue research-focused graduate study in STEM fields.
