BIORETS at Converse University: Science, Technology, and Research (STAR) Teachers of South Carolina is a summer program for middle school and high school teachers in South Carolina. During this six-week program, teachers will gain hands-on lab work experiences working side-by-side with scientists and participate in professional development workshops. Over the summer, teachers will be mentored to develop at least one lesson plan they can implement in their classrooms during the following school year. Converse science and education faculty will serve as a resource for teachers and students throughout the school year.
Be a middle school or high school STEM teacher faculty at a school within South Carolina. Have at least one year of classroom teaching experience. Have a current teaching appointment and a contract for the next school year. Agree to use the curriculum materials developed during the research experience at Converse. Be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident of the U.S. No prior research experience is required.
