Overview

The Center for Emergent Materials is a Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, MRSEC, that forms teams of researchers from different disciplines to collaborate in teams called Interdisciplinary Research Groups, IRGs. These IRGs tackle fundamental problems in science too large and complex for one scientist to solve alone. In this REU program, you will work with researchers to 1) Design, analyze, and grow new materials (crystals, thin films, 2D) with unique electronic/magnetic properties, 2) Develop innovative tools to control material properties within/across interfaces, 3) Build theoretical foundations for these emergent properties.

Research topics

Materials, condensed matter physics, electronic phenomena, magnetic phenomena, topology, theory

Eligibility

U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in physics, materials science, chemistry, or electrical/computer engineering.
