This program offers an opportunity to join a cohort of new researchers for a full year of research training in a supportive environment with personalized mentorship, networking, and guidance in developing professional skills. All research takes place on the West Virginia University, West Virginia State University, or Marshall University campus. Trainees are supported by a stipend of $32,500, reflecting a full-time commitment. The program is designed to prepare participants for diverse careers in STEM and provides guidance for entering directly into the workforce or for pursuing further research training.

Must-haves Participants must have a baccalaureate college degree before participating in the program (applicants must apply to the program before or within four years of graduation, with extensions allowed for family, medical leave, or military service). Individuals must not be currently enrolled or accepted into a graduate program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents of the United States. The program requires full-time commitment for a year: from 8/3/2026-7/30/2027. Nice-to-haves The program is aimed at individuals who feel they have had few or no research and training opportunities as an undergraduate. Individuals who are first-generation college students, students from low-income households, students from universities with limited resources for research and those from groups historically excluded from STEM or other related fields of study are encouraged to apply.
