This REU Site at Boston University provides a 10-week summer research experience for ~10 students. The program seeks to 1) provide students with a research experience that focuses on modern biological approaches in the area of gene regulation for the control of biological processes; 2) train students in research methods, ethics, and scientific culture; and 3) counteract low numbers of minority scientists and faculty in the US by giving experiences and knowledge. Students will be matched to research teams consisting of a faculty mentor and a graduate student. Students will give three oral scientific presentations during the summer and will return to present their research at BU’s Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium. Students will attend two weekly summer workshops on professional development topics. Social events will integrate students into the research environment. The research projects use multi-disciplinary approaches to address how gene expression controls biological processes.
