Overview

PNI’s Summer Internship Program (SIP) offers a fully funded, hands-on research experience for non-Princeton undergraduates interested in exploring neuroscience research or related fields and curious about pursuing graduate school and training. Over the course of nine weeks, SIP student interns are embedded in cutting-edge research labs led by PNI faculty, where they carry out original projects and gain valuable insight into the scientific process. Interns are matched with labs based on their academic background, research interests, and goals as indicated in their application materials. In addition to full-time lab work, SIP students take part in a wide range of educational and professional development programming, including: Weekly neuroscience research lectures from PNI faculty Courses in R and Python Research group meetings and mentorship Career development and graduate school prep workshops Attending the Leadership Alliance National Symposium (LANS) A final research poster presentation at the PNI Summer Research Showcase Participants receive a stipend, housing, a meal plan, and travel support. We encourage applications from any undergraduate student interested in gaining research experience, especially those with little or no previous experience, as well as those at institutions with limited research opportunities, including community colleges and smaller four-year schools. For more information, email: princetonsip@princeton.edu **Note: As with many REU programs, the Summer Internship Program (SIP) is contingent on federal funding. Programming for SIP 2026 will proceed pending renewed grant support.** Additional required form: please also rank preferred faculty lab placements here (only applicants who complete both the common application [ETAP or LA-SREIP] and this GoogleForm will be considered): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScKuwIEqs2tNKa6p1ryEYZ_98W9FTVVqgIQZyOZDh1-Xj1Lcg/viewform?usp=header

Eligibility

Eligible applicants must be current undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. permanent residents, per NSF guidelines. We especially encourage rising sophomores and juniors from any college or university to apply, including students with limited prior research experience. Strong candidates will demonstrate a clear interest in neuroscience or related fields and a desire to pursue graduate study. We welcome applicants from institutions with fewer research opportunities, such as community colleges and smaller four-year schools. Applicants should be eager to engage in hands-on research and participate fully in all aspects of the summer program, including workshops, coding courses, social and community building events, and a final poster presentation.
