Overview

10-week summer program (Full-time REU), begins the first Monday in June each year $7,000 stipend Travel support and on-campus housing for non-local students Conference travel support to present your work Scholarship & fellowship workshops and professional development seminars Cross-site poster sessions with students from other REU programs Contact: Dr. Yufang Jin — yufang.jin@utsa.edu >10 projects avaialble with sample projects listed below. Project 1: Human-LLM guided AI learning for Human-Robot Collaboration Focus on developing and testing AI algorithms that incorporate human and/or Large Language Model (LLM) guidance to improve customized human-robot collaboration. Students will work on integrating human feedback, LLM-based reasoning, and robotic perception and control systems to enhance autonomous collaboration between humans and robots. Project 2: Exploration of Cognitive Robotics with Neuromorphic Computing Explore the potential of neuromorphic computing in robotics to enhance robots' cognitive functions, such as learning, adaptation, and real-time decision-making. By utilizing neuromorphic processors that emulate the neural structures of the human brain, robots can achieve greater autonomy and more human-like interactions with their surroundings. Project 3: AI-Powered EEG-Based Brain–Computer Interface for Real-Time UAV Control Design and implement an intelligent brain–computer interface system that enables users to control unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using brain signals recorded with noninvasive electroencephalography headsets. The system will detect Steady-State Visually Evoked Potentials (SSVEPs) corresponding to user attention to specific visual stimuli, translate these neural responses into UAV motion commands (e.g., forward, backward, rotate), and execute these commands in real time via a closed-loop control framework.
