This 10-week summer REU program provides undergraduates experience conducting ecological research examining the impacts of environmental stressors. Students learn to formulate and test hypotheses and develop skills in experimental design, data collection, analysis, and critical reading of primary scientific literature. Students also learn to prepare and communicate scientific information to other scientists and the public. A student’s research may be conducted in the field, lab, greenhouse, or a combination thereof. Each award will include a stipend of $700 per week (totaling $7,000), additional funds for purchasing groceries (approximately $160 per week), free housing, and a budget for research supplies and research activities. Funding for your travel to and from the site (near Boyce, Virginia) is also available. The application and all supporting materials are due on February 15, 2026. Student participants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. permanent residents. Important note: This program will be conducted at UVA's Blandy Experimental Farm (near Boyce, VA), not on the UVA UVA Main Campus. Questions? Email Dr. Kyle Haynes at haynes@virginia.edu.
