The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rutgers University will host a small number of undergraduate researchers, and perhaps a full Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program, where participants will spend ten weeks doing forefront research in astronomy, particle physics, and condensed matter physics mentored by our award-winning faculty members. Participants will present the results of their projects at an undergraduate research symposium at the end of the summer, and as appropriate will be encouraged to continue to work on their projects beyond the end of the summer, and to present their results at a relevant professional conference following the conclusion of the program. Our department is located on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campus of Rutgers University, in central New Jersey with public transit access to New York, Philadelphia, and other destinations. Students will live in on-campus housing alongside undergraduate participants in other summer research programs and graduate student resident advisors. Please visit our website for complete details about the program.

We welcome applications from all U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and permanent residents who will have completed 2 to 3 years of undergraduate coursework but not yet have earned B.A. or B.S. degrees as of June 2025. We welcome applications from all U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and permanent residents who will have completed 2 to 3 years of undergraduate coursework but not yet have earned B.A. or B.S. degrees as of June 2025. Students with limited opportunities for research at their home institutions are encouraged to apply. Current Rutgers students are not encouraged to apply, and are instead invited to explore the opportunities for research that are uniquely available to our undergraduates.
