Overview

Opportunity Description This program prepares community college graduates and other non-traditional learners for careers in the hydrogen industry. Led by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and Western New England University (WNE) with regional industry partners, the program combines hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience in hydrogen production, utilization, safety, and infrastructure. Participants begin with in-house training at WPI and WNE, learning fundamentals of hydrogen technologies, safety standards, and manufacturing processes. They then advance to paid internships at partner companies such as Honeywell Aerospace, Plug Power, Nel Hydrogen, FuelCell Energy, and Volta Energy, where they apply their skills under expert guidance. Through this experiential learning framework, participants receive technical instruction, professional development, and career counseling to transition successfully into energy roles. The initiative promotes diversity, inclusion, and workforce readiness to strengthen the nation’s leadership in the emerging hydrogen economy.
